Building your Career Portfolio for MechEs is a series of workshops that will walk you through the most important career development steps to take in preparation for your job search. Emphasis will be placed on specific considerations for mechanical engineers where possible. Students will be supported in developing their career portfolio with feedback through peer review sessions and review by alumni and industry mentors in relevant fields.
This workshop series is open to current MIT MechE graduate and undergraduate students and MIT MechE Students who graduated in the 2019-2020 academic year. If you have questions about your eligibility, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org
Career Development Resource Guide
The materials, videos, and links to reccomended resources from the summer 2020 "Building your Career Portfolio" workshop series have now been compiled into a Career Development Resource Guide so that students and postdocs may access this information at any time to begin or improve their Career Portfolio.
Our goal with this series is to provide structure and community support for your focused career development and job search. Students will have access to the course Slack channel over the summer and sessions will include opportunities to share and connect with other participating students.
The MechE Alliance will support the students in making career connections. We will compile students’ completed portfolios into a student portfolio bank and actively reach out to hiring managers in relevant industries to help them connect with students. Students who complete the “assignments” for each section will come away with the needed resources for a successful job search, will be included in our student portfolio bank, and will be entered into a drawing to win one of three $100 gift cards.
All workshops will be recorded if a student cannot attend all workshops in person but submits all "assignments" by the deadline, they will be included in these closing activities.
Registration is required for inclusion in the alumni/industry feedback session and is open on a rolling basis starting June 22nd ending July 17th to allow time for matching with alumni/industry reviewers.
The MechE Alliance's goal is to support all interested students in receiving feedback from an alumni/industry contact. However, should the student interest exceed available reviewers, sessions will be scheduled on a first come/first served basis.
