Professor Arjun Yodh, University of Pennsylvania

I will mainly discuss experiments in temperature-sensitive colloidal packings [1] which explore connections between structure, rearrangements, and mechanical response. Recent work will apply machine learning ideas [2] to identify soft spots in disordered packings, i.e., spots which have a greater propensity to rearrange. Time permitting, I will also discuss experiments probing 2D-3D deformation of topographically structured bilayer films [3].
