Most of career has involved Marine and Ocean Hydrodynamics and related Applied mathematics and Optics. Hydrodynamics of sailing vessels and sails and their design has been worked on since 1958. Behavior of oil spills in the marine involvement and cleanup technology was studies theoretically, in the lab, and at sea for 30 years. 14 years of work were dedicated to the nonlinear dynamics of one vessel towing another in large ocean waves. For the last few years he has been working on energy-related issues. Recently, this involved determining conditions and costs for which PHEVs would be cost-competitive.
