Bioengineering is a field with tremendous opportunities for impacting human health. It is rich with mystery and possibility, and has opened the flood gates for exploration and exploitation. The MIT Department of Mechanical Engineering was at the forefront of bioengineering research before it was even recognized as an academic field.

Intro Text:

Mechanical engineering covers a broad range of disciplines, including materials, mechanics, systems and control, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, design, and manufacturing, all of which constitute a solid foundation for bioengineering.

Research Includes: Bioimaging and bioinformatics, bioinstrumentation and design, biomaterials and tissue engineering, and biomechanics.
