Professional Education Programs
MIT Professional Education offers two separate programs to further develop the knowledge base of professionals in particular fields, including mechanical engineering and its sub-areas.
Advanced Program
The Advanced Study Program offers full-semester credit classes for working professionals in industry or government looking to advance their knowledge and career. Graduates earn MIT credit and a certificate of completion. Go to the Advanced Program web page for more information and a full list of all available classes. See http://web.mit.edu/Professional/advanced-study/index.html
Short Program
MIT offers several 2-5 day classes taught by MIT faculty and experts, including several from MechE. Take a class in Radical Innovation; Design of Motors, Generators, and Drive Systems; Rapid Robotics; and more. Visit the Short Programs web page for more information and a full list of classes. See http://web.mit.edu/Professional/short-programs/index.html
Online Education Programs
OpenCourseWare
MIT OpenCourseWare (OCW) is a web-based publication of virtually all MIT course content. OCW is open and available to the world and is a permanent MIT activity. Through OCW, educators improve courses and curricula, making their schools more effective; students find additional resources to help them succeed; and independent learners enrich their lives and use the content to tackle some of our world’s most difficult challenges, including sustainable development, climate change, and cancer eradication. Choose from a long list of MechE classes. See http://ocw.mit.edu
MITx
With more than 40 courses on the online learning edX platform, MITx courses embody the inventiveness, openness, rigor, and quality that are hallmarks of MIT, and many use materials developed for MIT residential courses in the Institute's five schools and 33 academic disciplines.
MechE was one of the first MIT departments to offer a real-time course online via MITx. Peruse the list of courses: https://www.edx.org/school/mitx
