  • High-Speed Atomic Force Microscopy
  • Instrumentation and controls as related to robotics, smart-grids, and manufacturing automation.

  • 2014 National Instruments Engineering Impact Award in Advanced Research, for Building the World’s Largest Range, High-Speed Atomic Force Microscope.
  • 1999 Winner of the Best Paper Award of the ASME Journal of Dynamic Systems, Measurement and Control.
  • 1988-1990 Carl Richard Soderberg Career Development Chair, Professorship in Power Engineering.
  • 1987 Presidential Young Investigator, National Science Foundation Award in Recognition of Research and Teaching Accomplishments. (A two- year appointment.)
